CHIPPENHAM’S trip to county rivals Warminster may have lasted longer than most of the other matches involving sides from Premier Two Glos/Wilts Division last weekend but just like most of the league, Brad Dawson’s team were ultimately beaten by the elements.

Chippenham’s trip to Sambourne Road did at least get started but after a fourth rain stoppage halted the visitors’ innings, the clash was abandoned at 5.17pm, leaving both teams to settle for eight points apiece.

Dawson won the toss and opted to bat first but Chippenham got off a tricky start as opener Billy Cookson (3) fell with just nine runs on the board.

However, Darryl Losper (41) and Oliver Jones (35), who were both bowled by Warminster’s Trevor Fabian, weighed in to add some impetus to the visitors’ efforts.

Aaron Merryweather added a knock of 21 and Owen Alsop was unbeaten on 31 as the rain finally proved too much, with Chippenham standing on 154-5 as the match was brought to an end after nearly 34 overs of play.

Elsewhere, matches involving Goatacre, Biddestone and Burbage & Easton Royal were all hampered by the elements and were recorded as cancellations due to less than 20 overs being bowled in the first innings.

Jif Wilkins and Ed Wilkins had hit 22 and 21 respectively as Goatacre stood at 71-2 at home to Thornbury before that contest was called off after 11 overs whilst Biddestone bowled just under six overs against Gloucester City Winget (23-1).

Burbage’s trip to Rockhampton was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
