NEW boss Nick Maggs is aiming to put his best foot forward after getting back into the game as manager of Chippenham Park.

Former Pewsey Vale chief Maggs has been brought in to replace departed boss Dave Ferris and will be the new man to oversee Park’s Toolstation League First Division endeavours whilst also attempting to help develop players for stablemates Chippenham Town.

“I know Mark Collier (Chippenham Town manager) socially because we go to the same gym and he knew that I wanted to get back into football – he spoke to Neil (Blackmore, chairman) and things went from there,” said the new Park chief.

“I spent last season watching Hellenic League and Southern League football but I really wanted to get that buzz back and it’s nice to have that again and be able to enjoy the banter that you get in a dressing room.

“At first, I didn’t realise just how big a club Chippenham Town was but every time I go to training, somebody new comes to introduce themselves.

“Park are their feeder club. We might have a player come down and play if they’re coming back from injury or not getting a game and I have no problem with that.’’ “It’s a lot different to Pewsey, where I could call on Vale of Pewsey if I wanted to bring in a player but now I’ve got someone at a higher level above me.

“It’s been enjoyable so far and hopefully we’ll be able to improve on last season’s finish – that’s our aim.”

Tim Smith, who was former boss Ferris’ assistant, has stayed on as Maggs’ number two at the Hardenhuish Park club.
