SPENCER Melksham staged the annual Mary Weir Mitchell Memorial Trophy at their Beanacre Road green last weekend.
The mixed tournament is in memory of Mary Weir who was a founder member of the ladies bowling section and very influential in the starting up of the ladies bowls section at Spencer Melksham.
Twenty-four players took part in the memorial trophy and were split into six groups of four with the six round robin section winners plus best two runners-up progressing to the quarter-finals and knock-out stage.
In the semi-finals played over seven ends Maureen Laws edged past Carol Davies 4-3 while Bernie Davies beat Sheila Bird 7-2.
In the final Davies was a comfortable winner beating Laws 7-2 over seven ends.
It was the third time in four seasons since the memorial trophy began in 2013 that Davies had won it.
Weir’s husband Patrick Mitchell presented the trophies and prize money to the winners.
