A STRIKER is top of the shopping list for Swindon Town chairman Lee Power, with just 10 days to go until the start of the season.

While there is more than a month left of the summer transfer window, Power is keen to bring a forward and a defender to the club.

Town have lost three strikers already this transfer window, with Nicky Ajose, Miles Storey and Michael Smith all heading for the exit door.

That has left Swindon with only Jonathan Obika and Jermaine Hylton, who was plying his trade with non-league Redditch United less than two years ago, as the only recognised centre-forwards in their squad.

Meanwhile, Power is also looking to add strength in depth when it comes to the back line, with Raphael Branco, Jamie Sendles-White and Nathan Thompson, whose preferred position is right-back, currently providing the only centre-back options.

Asked if a striker was top priority in the transfer window, Power told BBC Wiltshire: “Yeah, definitely, and I think another defender.

“I think everyone is fully aware of what we need to get and what we are working on.

“They are probably the two areas that we are looking to improve and add people too.

“It’s going to be a long season and there are still one or two twists and turns before the season starts, and then we’ll be ready to go.”

Meanwhile, Town head coach Luke Williams is happy to let Power sort out what is happening on the personnel front while he concentrates on getting the players he has ready for the new season.

“I think the chairman is fully aware of the squad and where it needs bulking up,” added Williams.

“I think the reason why my title is head coach is to try and concentrate more on trying to get the best out of every player and try to show them some ideas that are going to help them hide their weaknesses and capitalise on their strengths.

“The chairman is fully aware and communicates with me regularly on targets he feels will fit into our structure well.”
