LUKE Williams has his fingers crossed that Swindon Town will be able to add to their squad before Wednesday night’s glamour friendly with Swansea City.

John Goddard, who played as Town were beaten 3-1 by his former club Woking on Saturday, Conor Thomas and Lawrence Vigouroux are the only three players recruited so far this summer and Williams says chairman Lee Power is working furiously behind the scenes to bring in further reinforcements.

On Wednesday, Town roll out the red carpet for Francesco Guidolin’s Swans (7.45pm) and, in an ideal scenario, head coach Williams would love to be able to hand a new signing the chance to strut their stuff against Premier League opposition at the County Ground.

“I would really like that,” the Swindon boss told BBC Wiltshire.

“I know the chairman would like to get people in before that game because it’s a fantastic game and really, if a player can perform against that sort of opposition, then you know they’re going to be something to take seriously.

“We’re hoping. It’s impossible to say for sure because other clubs are trying to lure the same players and players have got many things to think about.

“We’re hoping to get at least one in before the Swansea game.”

Williams is in little doubt that Town need to bolster their current squad and believes that a lack of strength in depth needs rectifying.

He added: “That was very evident the other night when we played Reading (a 2-1 loss last Tuesday).

“We looked a good football team and comfortable when we were in front but when we made the changes, we didn’t look comfortable at all and we conceded two goals.

“The chairman’s fully aware and he’s working hard to try and bring the correct players in to make us stronger; trying to bring them in before the start of the league campaign.”

Swindon have continued to run the rule over triallists, with Charles Dunne, Morgan Ferrier, Kenny McEvoy and Harly Wise all coming off the bench against Woking.

Defender Dunne, 23, ended last season at Blackpool, whilst 21-year-old striker Ferrier is a former Arsenal and Crystal Palace trainee who completed the 2015-16 campaign with non-league outfit Hemel Hempstead Town.

Irish winger McEvoy, 21, spent the second half of last term at York City and came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur but is more widely known for his resemblance to former team-mate and Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.

And ex-QPR defender Wise featured after being left as an unused substitute against Reading.
