SWINDON Town have been drawn away to Queens Park Rangers in the opening round of next season’s EFL Cup.
Luke Williams’ side, who this morning discovered that they will host Coventry City on the opening day of the 2016/17 League One season on Saturday, August 6, will travel to Loftus Road the week commencing August 8.
The Championship Rs boast former Town men Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin amongst their ranks, as well as Michael Doughty, who spent this term on loan at the County Ground from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side.
Premier League clubs enter the competition in round two whilst sides that have qualified for next season’s Champions League or Europa League arrive in round three.
Town famously won the League Cup – the EFL Cup’s former guise – in 1969, beating Arsenal 3-1 in extra-time at the old Wembley.
