SWINDON Robins will be left sweating on the fitness of captain Jason Doyle, with the Australian facing a late fitness test today.

Alun Rossiter’s side travel to the Adrian Flux Arena to face King’s Lynn Stars, with Doyle set to have treatment on his ankle this morning to determine if he will be fit to ride.

The 30-year-old had to be taken to hospital on Sunday night after suffering a fall when riding for Polish side Falubaz Zielona Gora.

Doyle caught his left ankle under the handlebars of his bike as he came off in the first bend of heat 12 after his front wheel made contact with the rear of King’s Lynn number one Niels Kristian Iversen in front of him.

Swindon’s skipper was released from hospital the same evening but faces a race against time to be fully fit for tonight’s meeting, having already missed an away trip to Belle Vue earlier this month due to taking several knocks in the build-up.

“Jason is going to make a decision (this) morning,” said Rossiter.

“He is going to have more treatment and we are hoping he is going to ride but we’ll have to see how he is doing.

“Doyle’s accident was just a racing incident and he just picked up in the middle of the corner and got his leg caught around the handlebars.

“I think if he could have got himself free – because he got himself off the back of the bike – then he would have been alright.

“It would be a blow not to have him. He is the top rider in the league at the moment and we would seriously miss him, but I have my fingers crossed that he will be ready.”

Rossiter says his troops are heading to Norfolk full of confidence as they look to record their sixth victory on the bounce but will see another change to their team order.

Justin Sedgmen’s paid maximum at home to King’s Lynn last Thursday sees him return to the main body of the team at number three, with Rohan Tungate moving to two and Charles Wright dropping back down to reserve.

“I think the boys are raring to go,” added Rossiter.

“It’s a track that we like and is always well-prepared, so that should make for a good meeting.

“We might have been stronger going there last week but we are still confident of going there and getting something.

“Our line-up has been changing on a weekly basis, which is something I did not expect when the rules changed.

“I expected the reserves to change but I didn’t expect the team orders to be changing as much as they are.

“It makes things difficult because you can’t get any continuity with the riders and you can’t build up partnerships.”
