A TEAM of skittlers from Devizes changed their name and promptly won a major tournament, beating off opposition from teams from Wales, Bristol, Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean.

The Old Wrecks mixed team, normally known as the Wiltshire Moonrakers men’s team and the Female Fumblers, decided to mix things up a bit this year and struck lucky with their new name and a score of 405, giving them a three-point victory over their nearest rivals the Gutterboys A team from Blakeney.

Old Wrecks captain Brian Harris said their winning secret was to have fun, although he added that they will be returning to their former names next year.

As well as lifting the winners’ trophy, team member Ann Price was the joint lady of the match in the final after hitting a score of 54.

The team are no strangers to winning inter county tournaments, having notched up three previous victories.

The competitions are organised by Serious About Events of Torquay, who also stage the annual Gasket Guy British Skittles Championships.
