SATURDAY will live long in the memory of Will Henry as his impressive debut performance, which included a penalty save, left manager Luke Williams smiling.

The 17-year-old was handed his first start against Rochdale having appeared on the bench since Town’s number one Lawrence Vigouroux was ruled out for the season with a leg injury.

With Tyrell Belford also absent for the remainder of the campaign with a groin injury and emergency loan stopper Jake Kean picking up a knock in training last week and returning to parent club Norwich City, first-year scholar Henry was handed his chance to impress.

Having made a shaky start, Henry’s confidence was given a shot in the arm when he got down low to his left to deny and Ian Henderson from the penalty spot before making a string of saves to deny Rochdale.

Henry could do little about either of Dale’s two goals as Swindon surrendered a two goal advantage to be pegged back to 2-2, but Williams says it will be hard to take the gloves away from the youngster for the last game of the season against Shrewsbury Town next Sunday.

“I think he has earned that. Failing any sort of injury, we can expect to see him at the County Ground,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire.

“We knew a couple of days ago, we were waiting to see if Jake would come through so he had a couple of days to get his head around it.

“We all at the football club like the lad a lot, both as a goalkeeper and we like his personality a lot and Steve (Hale, Town goalkeeping coach) works very closely with him and he has given us a real good review of him.

“He is somebody we are very interested in so we were only going to bring somebody in if we thought it was a great choice.

“It is just incredible really because it wasn’t like he just made a fantastic save from a penalty, which would have been good enough to be one incident in a debut which would be a standout, but he made save after save, it’s fantastic.”
