JORDAN Turnbull is shying away from discussing his plans for next season and says that he’ll be simply concentrating on attempting to make the grade at Southampton when he returns to St Mary’s for pre-season in the summer.

The 21-year-old, who hails from nearby Trowbridge, is just two games away from concluding his second season on loan at Swindon Town, where he first played academy football, from the Saints but is happy to leave his future in the hands of his Premier League employers.

One-time England U20 international Turnbull signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension with Southampton in February 2015 after first penning professional terms in June 2013 and despite savouring his two terms at the County Ground, the defender is understandably prioritising a bid to break into the first-team picture with his parent club.

“For me, I’m still contracted to Southampton and I’m looking forward to going back there (in) pre-season, and again, the same as last year, showing the coach how I’ve improved and showing what I can do, and going from there,” Turnbull told the local media.

“I’ve got nothing planned for next season at all – it’s just go back to Southampton and impress as much as I can.

“I’m extremely pleased with the amount of games that I’ve played and I’m fortunate to have come to such a great club, where we play great football.

“I’ve really, really enjoyed the two years I’ve had here, so hopefully that’s really good for me.

“I’ve gained a lot experience and I need to use that when I get back to pre-season to show Southampton what I can do.”

Turnbull notched his first senior goal when heading home in a 3-3 draw against Walsall last season and with two games to go before the current campaign ends, the defender would love to add to his tally.

He added: “I’m trying every week. I tried to shoot (on Saturday) and they blocked it.

“I’m sure it’ll come. I’ve got two games. I’ll have to go up front for 10 minutes.”
