IN WHAT was their penultimate game of the season, Devizes-based The Castle FC suffered a huge blow in their bid to become Premier Division champions for a second time in three years.

Pack Horse, who had won the reverse fixture a month ago 2-1, went into the game on the back of a 3-1 loss against Cons FC, but showed real character as they claimed a 4-2 triumph.

Goals from Jamie Treweke, Mark Nolan and Stuart Field put Pack Horse 3-0 up before Matt Tilley got the Castle on the scoresheet.

A second from Treweke saw Pack Horse make it 4-1 and although Jack Bramwell grabbed a second for Castle it was little more than a consolation as Tyrone Prades side held out to claim a deserved three points.

Just six days after claiming a nailbiting 4-3 victory at Melksham Cosmos, Mel King’s Corsham CC Wildcats kept their slender hopes of picking up back-to-back titles alive with a thumping 18-1 win over the same opponents who played the whole game with just 10 men.

The Wildcats were 10-0 up at half time, Lewis McCarron started the carnage and Sam Jordan bagged six by the break.

Adam Mitchell with two and Tom Foley’s single completed the double figures.

Leigh Rogers and Joe King added two each in the second half, Darrin Moss, Will Chivers, Nick Chandler and a seventh of the morning for Sam Jordan made up the 18.

Chris Berrelly replied for Cosmos.
