THERE is no lack of confidence among the Swindon Town forwards according to striker Jonathan Obika, despite a slight dip in results of late.

Although Saturday’s point at Gillingham was a good one in the context of the league table, with Justin Edinburgh’s side pushing for promotion, it is now four games without a win for Town.

Having netted eight times in two games at the beginning of the year, the emphasis appears to have shifted to shoring up the back line, with Town having conceded just three in their last two, and as a result, Swindon’s forward prowess has taken a hit - they've scored two goals in four.

Obika feels comfortable in the way Luke Williams is trying to get his team to play and believes it will only be a matter of time before their dominance in possession turn into results.

“The team have had patches where we haven’t played well, like the start of the season, but I feel like we are controlling the games a bit more now and we are going into the games with a good plan, and now we just have to execute it,” he told BBC Wiltshire.

“I feel more relaxed because of the way the team is playing. When it is comfortable from the back, there are times where I can move and come short to link the play and I can also go in behind.

“It is a bit of cat and mouse. You are going to have to outwit the defences because sometimes, as you saw against Port Vale and Barnsley, teams set up in two banks of four and try to limit the space.”

In recent weeks, fellow forwards Jermaine Hylton and Jordan Young have been given their chance to impress and Obika knows it is down to Town's frontmen to get Swindon firing again.

“For Jordan, it was his debut (against Port Vale) and Hylton has had a few minutes this season so for them, it is a bit different and they need to get into the game,” he added.

“I thought they played well and it is more like a team aspect because we always try to play from the back.

“Sometimes, if strikers miss, then they sometimes shy away from getting into the box but you have to make sure you are always available to receive the ball.

“Now it is just the time to put those chances away and make sure that we are on top for longer periods.”
