LAWRENCE Vigouroux is getting back to his best, according to goalkeeping coach Steve Hale.

The Liverpool loanee kept just his fourth clean sheet of the campaign in Saturday’s goalless draw against Gillingham at Priestfield.

Having kicked off the new year with the defence conceding five goals in two games, Town have now only let in three in their last four outings.

At the beginning of the season, three of Saturday’s back five had not had a league appearance between them and Hale believes the solidity of their defence is only going to get better the more experience they get.

“At some point, he is going to have that little dip in form where he lacks that experience and that is exactly how it panned out,” he told BBC Wiltshire.

“He had a little spell where perhaps one or two goals you could have looked at him for, but to be fair to Lawrence, he has come through that and he is starting to get back to the form he was showing at the start of the season.

“It’s the same whether it’s a goalkeeper or an outfield player. Brandon (Ormonde-Ottewill) is another one coming out of under 21 football.

“He started the season then came out of the side and back into the side and he is learning. Brad Barry is learning - they are all learning.

“The more games they play, the more experience they get, the better the players they are going to be for it.”

At the end of last year, Swindon Town youth goalkeeper Declan Lehmann was diagnosed with a seminoma tumour in front of his heart.

The teenage stopper has been undergoing chemotherapy and Hale is hoping to show his support by holding a charity penalty shoot-out night at his Steve Hale Goalkeeping School on Wednesday evening to raise money for The CALM Trust - Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement Swindon.

“It’s well documented that Declan is suffering with cancer,” added Hale.

“We had some positive news recently. He had his first bout of chemotherapy and after that, we then found out that the tumour he has got has shrunk by 4cm, which was really positive news.

“At eight-years-old, he came into the system, so it is a long time I have been working with him and it is not good news but we are hoping he will come through it.

“Declan’s family have been supported by local cancer charity CALM, who are run by volunteers and always need support as well.

“They have looked after Declan’s family well and I was always looking to do a fundraiser through my goalkeeping school and was trying to find a charity to support.

“Of course, every charity is important but if there is something in Swindon and in the community that we can support, even better.”

There will also be an auction, including a signed Man City football, signed boots from Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Obika and Wes Foderingham signed gloves - with all money going to CALM.
