CARLO Finucci hopes Swindon Wildcats “can do the business” at the Link Centre again on Saturday night as they kick-off a crucial run of fixtures in the English Premier League.

The fifth-placed Cats have just one game this weekend but it is against the side directly above them in the table – Guildford Flames.

Victory for Aaron Nell’s men would be their fifth in a row and catapult them above Guildford, as well as positioning them perfectly for the triple header against the top two of Basingstoke Bison and Milton Keynes Lightning next week.

The Cats’ last two home wins set them up for consecutive four-point weekends, and Canadian Finucci is eager to stay in red-hot form at the Link Centre against Flames.

“The momentum we have is huge. The last two Saturday games were tough games and we knew if we got those that we had a good chance at securing four-point weekends,” said Finucci.

“We took care of business on Saturday night and set ourselves up for the two Sundays and were able to do it.

“It’s a tight race right now so we have just got to keep our pace and when we are playing those teams we are trying to catch, we need to win because that will help us leapfrog them.

“Basingstoke are a few points ahead of us but we play them a bunch of times in the last couple of months of the season.

“We have got to win those games against those types of teams because those are four-point games in the sense that if we win, we go up two and they stay the same.

“We have a couple of games in hand on Milton Keynes and we play them soon too.

“Everyone says every game is huge and a must-win and it literally is at this time of year.”

Although the Cats are flying high at the moment and positioning themselves nicely for a strong seeding in the end-of-season play-offs, Finucci is cautious of looking too far ahead.

“It was another four-point weekend last week and we’re rolling now, that’s a couple in a row,” said Finucci.

“We’ve just got to get back to basics and work hard in practice as it’s going to be a tough game next.

“Obviously you want to make a run up the table and if you worry about that first, then you are setting yourself up for a good spot at the play-offs, and then we will worry about that at that time.

“As long as we are playing like we can, I think we can make a decent run up the table, so it’s going to be a pretty exciting last 15 or 16 games.”
