LOUIS Thompson is prepared to go in goal if it would help out his beloved Swindon Town.

After finding himself out of the side at Fleetwood last Saturday, Thompson offered the perfect response on Tuesday with a match-winning performance against Walsall.

In the absence of stand-in skipper Raphael Branco due to suspension this weekend, there were suggestions in some areas of the local media of Thompson moving into the Brazilian’s sweeper position against Chesterfield.

Town boss Martin Ling dismissed the idea in his post-match press duties in midweek and said he would be looking at a change of system.

When questioned on the matter himself, Thompson insisted he would play wherever he was required.

“I will do anything I can for the team so long as we can pick up the three points,” he said.

“If that means sweeper or goalkeeper, I don’t really mind. So we’ll see what happens, I know there’s more than enough players that can do that role so I’m not worried.

“I haven’t played much football since my shoulder injury, six months out without playing a game of football. It was tough for me.

“I’m glad I’ve started to hit my stride and I know the fans would certainly express their disappointment with me and that shows in them saying that (Town) were right to drop me.

“Hopefully I have proved to them what I can bring to the team and hopefully I have proved to the team what I can bring to them.”
