WITH four wins from six races runners from St John’s School dominated the Kennet Schools’ Cross Country Championships held at Marlborough College, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

Karla Jackson, Sophie Smith, Jacob Smith and Henry Adamson emerged victorious for the Marlborough-based school while the other two titles were claimed by the Dauntsey’s pair of Virginia Jacobs and Ollie Jones.

In the inter girls’ race 14-year-old Jackson, who is also a member of the Marlborough & District Juniors, won with me ease as she finished 32 seconds clear of her team-mates Katie McQue and Annabel Hitchmough in what proved to be a St Johns clean sweep.

Smith also enjoyed a big win in the junior girls’ race finishing 37 seconds clear of the field and on that sort of form should be a strong contender for a podium place at the Wiltshire Schools’ Championships in the new year.

Jacob Smith led another St Johns clean sweep in the inter boys’ age group with Dan Davis and Iona Jenkins completing the top three while 14-year-old Adamson was too strong for Dauntsey’s 12-year-old James Pickford in the junior boys’ event.

The Daunstey’s success came in the minor age group races with 12-year-old Virginia Jacobs just holding off schoolmate Issie Burn and 11-year-old Ollie Jones finishing well clear of Lavington’s Will Cook.
