CHRISTIE MILLER ladies were second best to local rivals North Wilts last weekend, but Clarrie Dunbar ladies made the perfect start to a new indoor season in the women’s top national inter-club competition.
Melksham-based Christie were beaten by 18 shots going down 87-69 and losing on all four rinks to Chippenham-based North Wilts.
However, despite rink honours being shared two-all Clarrie Dunbar were able to record a 12 shot-success as they ran-out 89-77 victors over Purnell in their opening round Yetton Trophy tie.
The first-half of the Clarrie Dunbar and Purnell match was very tight, with Dunbar leading 21-18 at five ends, but down by two shots (39-41) at ten.
Clarrie ladies though had taken control by 15 ends going 70-56 up and finally had 12 shots to spare at the finish winning 89-77.
- TWENTY-FOUR hours later on the Sunday Clarrie Dunbar completed a weekend double over Purnell.
They thrashed the Somerset side 108-40 in the first round of the Egham Trophy, national inter-club mixed championship.
- THE men’s national team events are set to begin fully for Christie Miller over the next ten days as well as Clarrie Dunbar.
In the Denny Cup, men’s inter-club championship, Christie meet Nailsea on Saturday while Clarrie face Thornbury in first round ties.
- BEV LILLEY, the Christie Miller representative, is through to the ladies Area 30 semi-finals in the national champion of champions competition.
In the area quarter-finals Lilley enjoyed a very comfortable 21-5 victory over Nailsea’s Jenny White and will now face Alex Jacobs (North Wilts).
- l WESSEX League holders Clarrie Dunbar thrashed Purnell 131-50 in their opening central region match of the new season taking the honours on all four rinks to take all 16 point on offer.
