CHIPPENHAM Town will have to overcome higher league opposition if they’re to match their best-ever runs in the FA Cup.

The Bluebirds were this morning drawn at home to National League South Maidstone United in the fourth qualifying round, with the Stones set to visit Hardenhuish Park on Saturday October 24.

Mark Collier’s men dispatched Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central Uxbridge last weekend, winning 3-0 in London, and have overcome near neighbours Frome Town and Bradford Town in the country’s most famous cup competition this season.

The Bluebirds’ best-ever runs in the FA Cup have both ended in the first round proper, with the Hardenhuish Park outfit losing to Leyton in 1951 and Worcester City in 2005.

Standing in their way of a third appearance at that stage will be Maidstone, who won promotion to the National League for the first time in their history by winning the Isthmian League Premier Division last season.

The Kent outfit, who beat Dunstable Town 2-0 on Saturday, made it to the second round proper last season, beating League Two Stevenage live on BT Sport in a first round replay before losing 3-1 to Wrexham.

Chippenham’s scheduled Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division clash with Biggleswade Town on October 24 has been postponed.
