MINETY marched into the semi finals of the county Vase as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Supermarine.

Playing downhill in the first half, Minety raced into a 10-0 lead with tries from Jack Ward and Steve Brown.

A Garin Garland penalty extended the lead to 13 points before top of the table Supermarine scored a pushover try just before half time.

Minety extended their lead in the 43rd minute when Matt Roberts ended a flowing move from the backs to score a try, with Garland converting.

The hosts had to defend for lengthy periods of the game and lost Ward to the sin-bin and Ashley Windle after a clash of heads.

But, against the run of play, Gareth Graham scored for the home side after a break out and Garland slotted the conversion.

Another Garland penalty extended the lead before Brown broke through to score his second, again converted by Garland, a late Marine try concluding the scoring.

Minety coach Andy Ward said: “It was great to win over a Supermarine team who have won all of their league matches this season and who only came down into the league (Dorset & Wilts One North) from the Southern Counties Division last season.

“In patches we played some really great rugby but we need to add consistency and improve our discipline.”

Double try scorer Brown added: “Both were really well set up by the backs. thought it was our best performance of the season; we were so aggressive in defence.”
