JUST over a month into the new season and nobody would have predicted that Aces FC would be the team topping the Trowbridge Windows-sponsored Trowbridge & District League Division One table.

However after three games and an 8-4 win on Saturday afternoon over defending champions Freshford United that is how things stand at the moment.

A debut goal for Phil Little put Aces in front before an own goal from Dave Norris brought Freshford back on level terms.

A brilliant 30-yard left footed drive from Tom Pang regained the lead for Aces and when he added his second prior to half time Mike Little’s side sensed an upset was on the cards.

After the break Freshford halved the deficit through Craig Brown only for Dave Gaskin to net and give Aces back their two goal cushion.

Dave Percival kept Freshford in the game, but once Tom Pang scored his third and fourth goals from the penalty spot, Aces were firmly in the ascendancy.

Nick Baldwin made it 7-3 and when Pang netted his fifth of the game for 8-3 it was game over.

Nick Ross claimed a fourth late on for the champions but on the day Aces came out on top in the battle of two sides who were both missing key players.

After going close to claiming their first point of the season away at Semington Magpies last weekend, Marc Lanfear was hoping that his young Westbury United Reserves side might go all the way against near-neighbours Warminster Town Reserves when they met at Meadow Lane.

Warminster had other ideas as they picked up their second league win of the season as they hit six unanswered goals. Kurt Hammonds and Carl Clarke scoring in the first half. Steve Seals, two from Phil Curtis and a Luke McGulkian effort made up the half dozen.
