MARK Cooper was not too unhappy with his side’s performance as they went down 1-0 to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Mark Cullen put Blackpool ahead with a flicked header from a corner in the 38th minute, but Swindon controlled the majority of the ball in the League One contest.

Searching for an equaliser in the second half, Town did commit numbers forward, but their play was too slow and they failed to create anything clear-cut. It meant their efforts were limited to shots from range as the Tangerines defence held firm.

Speaking post-match, Cooper launched a defence of his side’s display and insisting he was not concerned about their precarious confidence in front of goal.

“I thought we played quite well,” he told the local media. “We had a lot of possession and long spells camped in their half, but we didn’t create enough openings to get the goal.

“Our so-called flair player didn’t produce the goods today.

“It’s the final ball - the decision on the ball at the last minute in and around the penalty area to pick the right pass, or that little bit of quality, and we didn’t have that enough today.

“But from our goal to the edge of their box, we were really, really good.

“I can’t be disappointed with the performance.

“Maybe (there’s a lack of confidence in the final third), but I think if we played that game again, it is impossible to have that amount of possession and not score a goal.

“We dominated for large spells and deserved to get something out of the game.

“I didn’t think we played backward a lot today, we played forward a lot. We played on the front foot and created a lot of opportunities, but not enough clear-cut chances.

“We’ll be fine. I’m sure once we get one (win), we can go on a run.”

The Swindon Advertiser was not permitted to attend Cooper's post-match press duties.
