SWINDON Town have been handed an intriguing tie against old rivals Oxford United in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Town, who defeated League Two Newport County on penalties in the opening round at Rodney Parade on Tuesday, will head to the Kassam Stadium in the week commencing October 5 to renew their acquaintances with their A420 rivals.

Town will be trying to end a 14-year wait for victory against United, as well as ending a run of four straight defeats.

The two last met at the first round stage of the same competition in 2012, when Oxford won 1-0 courtesy of Alfie Potter's late strike.

Prior to that, the U's won home and away in the league in 2011-12 as well as at the Kassam Stadium in the FA Cup in 2002.

Town's last victory in the fixture came in the league in March 2001, when Steve Robinson's double earned them a 2-0 win in Oxford.
