CHIPPENHAM-BORN racer Danny Kent re-wrote the British Grand Prix history books with victory in the rain-soaked Moto3 race at Silverstone today.

The 21 year old Honda racer, who now lives just over the border in Tetbury, is the first British rider to win the lightweight race at his home grand prix at Silverstone.

Kent, after his sixth win of the season, opened up a 70-point lead in the world championship after his main rival Enea Bastianini crashed out with two laps to go, in a incident-packed race.

Leopard Racing’s Kent delighted the 73,000 fans by claiming his eighth GP career victory in dominant fashion.

The race saw the worst weather of the day but the runaway championship leader, starting from third on the grid, took over the lead with 13 laps to go after Isaac Viñales crashed out.

Once he had established a 10-second lead, he managed the gap perfectly, despite a huge moment in the latter stages as the weather worsened.

He crossed the line 8.492s ahead of Jakub Kornfeil and holds a huge championship lead over Gresini Racing Team Moto3’s Enea Bastianini after the Italian crashed out of fifth on the penultimate lap.
