CHRIS Harris has admitted that he would prefer to be guesting for Swindon under better circumstances as he steps in to the breach for tonight’s meeting with King’s Lynn.

With the Robins’ number one Darcy Ward still in hospital following his horror crash in Poland on Sunday, Swindon have turned to Coventry’s captain to fill the void.

Harris knows that he will be coming into a team that will be affected by the seriousness of Ward’s injuries but hopes he can help the team secure an important win.

“It is always nice to have an extra meeting and do a bit of guesting for other clubs, but obviously it is in very sad circumstances,” he told the Adver.

“With what has happened to Darcy, we all wish him well and hopefully it is not as bad as people are making out.

“I was shocked and as upset as much as everyone.

“He has come back and was probably doing better than he was when he got banned.

“He was having a fantastic time being back but unfortunately the accident occurred and, watching the clips I have seen, it was a pretty nasty one.

“The Aussie riders are all very close and they do a lot of stuff away from the speedway track.

“Batch (Robins skipper Troy Batchelor) is good friends with Darcy and (Chris) Holder, as is Nick (Morris), so it is going to be a strange time for them and hopefully they can carry on doing what they have been all season.

“I am sure they will want to go out tomorrow and win for Darcy.”

Despite Harris being the skipper of play-off rivals Coventry Bees, who currently sit one place and four points above third placed Swindon in the Elite League, ‘The Bomber’ has promised to give his all for the club that will be paying his wages.

“It is always a strange one,” he added. “On Monday, I was guesting for Belle Vue and they are pushing for a play-off spot as well.

“It is always a strange one when your club is in the play-offs and you are helping other clubs that are strong contenders to be in there as well.

“It is always an honour to ride for another club and Swindon is a club I know well.

“It is going to be hard to replace Darcy and what he was scoring, but I will be going out and giving it my best.

“King’s Lynn is one of my favourite tracks and I will give it 100 per cent because at the end of the day, Swindon will be paying my wages.”
