CALNE win and lose – and party – as a team, and party was exactly what the Beversbrook Road outfit did last weekend after hauling themselves out of the Wiltshire Division drop zone with a scorching nine-wicket win over title-chasing Westbury.

Calne had racked up just two victories all season heading in to last weekend’s trip to the Leighton Recreation Centre but they bucked the trend and turned their fortunes around, handing their campaign a shot in the arm.

Adams, who has stood in as captain after Dan Knight broke his thumb in the opening game of the season against Trowbridge, thought his team were worthy winners and says that a relaxed attitude was the key to them turning the table on its head.

“We’ve played well in the last few games and we’ve been picking up eight or nine points,” said Adams.

“We lost to Trowbridge by one run (on July 4) and that hit the guys hard.

“We just wanted to go out and enjoy our cricket and what will be, will be.

“We all bowled really well and the spinners were very good – Glen Robinson and Andy Windsor were superb and I myself supported them.

“Then, Jordan Butler came in and was different class with the bat. He can’t be far away from a Wiltshire call-up now.

“He hit a great shot from the Wiltshire bowler (Andy Carroll) and got 97 not out – it was one the best knocks I’ve seen.

“I don’t think that we’re going to go down. We’ll keep trying to enjoy our cricket and see what happens.

“The guys all went out and had a party afterwards on Saturday. We win as a team, lose as a team and party as a team.”

Andy Windsor (3-21) led the bowling as Calne put Westbury under the cosh, dismissing their opponents for 175 at the end of their innings.

Butler then led the charge with his fine unbeaten 97 whilst James Watson added 71 as the visitors clinched victory, reaching 176-1 midway through the 30th over.

Elsewhere, Marlborough slipped to a third successive defeat as they suffered a two-wicket loss to Purton, the home side crumbling at 95 all out after 35 overs.

Ben Head took 5-21 but his efforts were in vain as Purton reached 96-8 in just over 27 overs.

Fourth-placed Marshfield claimed a five-wicket home win over Malmesbury, with the visitors toiling with the bat after opting to bat first.

Cameron Walker took 4-37 as Michael Collison top-scored with just 27 as Malmesbury were skittled for 115 early in the 39th over.

Devizes’ Joe Wookey hit a century as his team triumphed over new basement boys Winsley.

Wookey smacked 102 to put his team in control before Iain Kiy added an unbeaten 50 and Tim Saye chipped in 39 as Devizes posted a fearsome 290-6.

The hosts did their best to hit back but Wookey (4-26) also proved effective with the ball as Winsley were skittled for 211 in the 47th over.

Rob Palmer hit 120 as Great Bedwyn posted 241-9 against league leaders Trowbridge but the visitors’ Tom Oakley hit an unbeaten 110 as they reached 243-3 in 40 overs.
