BRILLIANT bowling from Denson Narayan inspired Chippenham to a 149-run success over Biddestone.

Narayan claimed 5-16 to skittle Biddestone all out for 65 in reply to Chippenham’s target of 214-7. Openers Arran Merryweather (56) and Tom Young (51) set the tone for that score.

It was been a good week all round for the club as they have received a £5,000 funding boost from The Hills Group Limited.

The money has been made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), which is administered for Hills by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.

The funding has been used to pay for the upgrade and refurbishment of the club’s outdoor net facility, which was first installed in 2004 and has become uneven, worn and dangerous.

Committee member Pete Sykes said: “In recent years our net facility had deteriorated to a point that players, both junior and senior, were becoming very frustrated by the lack of quality practice they could get through the use of the nets.

“However, thanks to the very generous contributions of The Hills Group Limited and Chippenham Area Board, who provided us with a community grant of £4,000, we now have a practice facility which is as good as new.

“Since the upgrade to the facility we have seen a marked increase in the number of players training in the nets and our junior section now has a facility that is safe to use and also provides them with more training space on a junior coaching evening.

“We hope that through this work we will be able to attract more members to the club.”

Meanwhile, Burbage & Easton Royal went down by three wickets when they travelled to Gloucester City Winget.

Opener Tom Cope formed the backbone of the Burbage innings as he made 73 to help his side post 203 all out. Gloucester’s Alex Nel claimed 5-37.

Tom Wallbridge, Adam Lavis and Darran Freegard claimed two wickets apiece in Gloucester’s reply but 57 from Scott Montgomery helped see them home.
