MILLWALL have ruled themselves out of the running to sign Town target Alfie Mawson.
The former Brentford defender, who spent last season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, opted against signing a new deal at Griffin Park when his contract expired this summer.
The Lions, who were demoted to League One last season, were interested in signing the young defender and held discussions with him earlier this week, but have now ruled out a move.
“We spoke to Alfie. He had a lot of clubs to speak to and we’ve ruled that out now,” Millwall manager Neil Harris told News at Den.
“I’ve said all along that centre-half and centre-forward are positions that we’re looking at.”
Despite the player meeting with Town last week, the 21-year-old has remained tight-lipped over his future, with Birmingham, Sheffield United and Bradford City all said to be after the talented defender.
Mawson comes highly-rated, having come third in the League Two player of the year awards, as well as being named player of the season by Wycombe fans.
