NATHAN Byrne will be allowed to leave Swindon Town should the club receive an acceptable offer for the player, although a move away from Wiltshire is not imminent, the Advertiser understands.

Rumours have been circulating for several weeks that Byrne could be the latest player to leave the County Ground, with several clubs reportedly keen on his services.

The wing-back enjoyed a stellar season for Town in 2014-15 and was named in the League One PFA team of the year.

Sources close to Byrne have revealed that he will be granted a move away from Swindon should the right offer come in for him.

QPR are believed to be heading the queue for the 23-year-old, having already signed both Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin from Town this summer.

Byrne is also thought to be on the radar of fellow Championship clubs Huddersfield, Wolves and Fulham.

However, Town would hold out for a hefty fee for one of their most prized assets and the Adver understands that any talks over Byrne’s departure are still in their infancy and a move is not expected to materialise imminently.

Last month Premier League side West Brom were rumoured to be keen on Byrne but that interest appears to have cooled.

Speculation has been rife that any Byrne exit would have to form part of a double deal alongside striker Michael Smith but no talks in that regard are thought to have taken place.

Byrne joined Swindon from Tottenham in 2013 and Spurs would be due half of his sell-on fee.

Meanwhile, the destination of former Town goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is expected to be resolved in the near future.

Foderingham was not offered a new contract at the County Ground at the end of last season and is currently weighing up offers from multiple clubs.

Birmingham and Reading have both been linked with the 24-year-old, with the Blues believed to be favourites for his signature.

Meanwhile the Midlands club have also joined in the running to clinch the signature of Town target Alfie Mawson.

The centre-back, who scored seven goals last term, turned down a new contract offered to him by parent club Brentford last month and has no shortage of clubs interested in his services.

Mawson was expected to make a decision on his future this week, according to sources close to the player, but with fellow League One clubs, Millwall, Bradford City and Barnsley also linked with the 21-year-old that decision could take longer.

The defender’s role in the first team was discussed when the player met with Swindon on Monday, which could favour Town ahead of the interest in Mawson from the Championship, with playing time set to be a big factor in the decision making process for the player.
