CHIPPENHAM archer Pauline Burfitt is no stranger to international competition but she has his fingers crossed that she can hit the mark and earn her first-ever World Championship berth.

The 62-year-old compound archer, who has represented Great Britain at World Cup events in China and Turkey, is through to the second and final British selection shoot at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre on June 27-28, where the top three competitors will make up the GB squad for July’s worlds in Denmark.

Burfitt was fifth at the season’s first selection competition, also held at Lilleshall, back in April and says that it would be ‘amazing’ to make it to this summer’s Copenhagen showpiece.

“I didn’t go to the trials last year but I did go the year before that – I’ve never made it before,” said Burfitt.

“To get there would be just amazing. Everyone will be going for it at the next trial though, so it’s going to be really difficult.

“There will be four compound ladies and four compound gents, and four recurve ladies and four recurve gents. It’s going to be tough but it would be great to do it.”

Chippenham Archers club member Burfitt has already achieved the required scores to retain her Grand Master Bowman rank this season and shoot for England at the Euronations/Regional Commonwealth Championships in Edinburgh on July 3-5.
