MASSIMO Luongo and Ben Gladwin’s landlord could be looking for a new set of tenants as Aston Villa are looking to take Town’s midfield pair away in a double swoop.

The Australian international and former Marlow man are flatmates in Swindon and the Premier League club are looking to give both a new home with a £3.5 million bid.

Both played in Sunday’s 4-0 play-off final defeat, after which Luongo said he was unsure about his future, but was confident in ability to play at a higher level.

The news on Gladwin is more left-field. The 22-year-old was only picked up from Southern League Division One in November 2013, but has enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 11 goals.

Whilst some Town fans might be surprised of Premier League interest in Gladwin, Sherwood has been a long-time admirer.

Commenting in a blog for the Independent on Gladwin’s ability and versatility, two months before he was appointed at Villa Park, Sherwood said: “He came up through non-league, most recently having played for Marlow, and can play a range of positions including centre-half, wing-back and midfield. Uses his size well. Great feet and technically very confident.”

Though the dual deal might be explained by Tottenham Hotspur retention of a 50 per cent sell on clause on Luongo. Given Town chairman Lee Power is well-known for squeezing the most out of a deal it would be no surprise if any fee was structured in a way that saw Spurs receive a minimal slice.
