ROYAL Wootton Bassett coach Kevin Pamphilon was delighted that his side managed to follow up their big win over Urchfont with an eight-wicket success over Box.

The victory at Rylands Way means that Bassett, who were last season’s runners up, have now won all three of their matches in Division One and sees them five points clear of Hinton Charterhouse.

Having restricted Box to 134-9 in batting friendly conditions, the hosts led by in-form opener Sam Lawro, who racked up his third half-century of the campaign with an unbeaten 70, eased to their target with 10.1 overs to spare.

“It is difficult to get full bowling points at Rylands Way as it is quite a batting friendly track,” Pamphilon said.

“So to restrict Box to 134 is a great effort because it was easily a 200-plus pitch.

“We were absolutely gutted not to go up last season as we wanted to play at the higher level and that is spurring us on this year.

“But there are still 15 games to go and we have to continued to apply ourselves.”

Hinton Charterhouse maintain the pressure on Bassett as they made it three wins in a row as they defeated Nationwide House.

Electing to bat, Nationwide's Dom O’Neill was immediately into his stride and hit 52 off 40 balls as the visitors looked set for a huge total.

However, James Jacob removed by the openers before ripping through their middle order to end with figures of 6-50 as the visitors were dismissed for 145.

After a third successive 50 opening partnership between Chris Antrobus (35) and Richard Newport, Hinton were cruising, but with both perishing within a few balls, 82-1 quickly became 100-5.

But experienced campaigner Ben Sim joined John Newport (62no) and the two took the hosts to their target with five overs to spare. Joe Perkins was Nationwide’s best bowler with figures of 3-33.

Swindon Civil Service fell to a 33-run defeat at Beckington despite dismissing their hosts for 207.

Division 2

WROUGHTON Wranglers inflicted more misery of bottom side Collingbourne with a seven-wicket success.

After being put into bat, Collingbourne openers Owen Sheppard and Craig Watts put on 43 before the latter was caught going for a six on 27.

Karl Gingell came and went but Dave Gale provided support for captain Sheppard.

At 78 from 19 overs, Sheppard was bowled for 31 leading to a middle order collapse as Collingbourne lost four wickets for 12 runs. Jacob Marsh supported Gale as he carried on but his dismissal introduced the ever dangerous Imdad Haque.

At 119-7 from 30 overs, Imdad pushed the score on with Gale in support and posted 44 in 28 balls with the pair sharing a 56-run partnership.

However, Imdad fell leaving Gale to become the lynchpin of their innings with 44 but the bowling of Mike Evans, who finished with 6-39, saw the hosts dismissed for 191.

In reply, Collingbourne knew wickets would be key and John Aitken struck in the fourth over, before Sheppard followed up in the 17th to leave Wranglers on 61-2.

Wroughton’s number three and four batsmen then took the game away from the hosts with a 121-run partnership before Sheppard claimed his second wicket.

Evans, who added an unbeaten 70 to his six-wicket haul, then saw Wroughton home in the 42nd over.

Swindon United Churches remain top of table despite despite falling to their first defeat of the season against Swindon Nalgo.

Chasing 142 to win, Nalgo registered a five-wicket win in the first league meeting between the two sides for several decades.

Churches captain Richard Martin won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first.

The wickets of Keith Coatsworth (1), Dean Tomlin (14) and Chris Gilchrist (3) fell early to leave Churches reeling at 27-3.

A partnership of 28 between Danny Hunt (69) and Liam Brooks (6) threatened a recovery but Nalgo’s Anwar (4-31) and Khan (2-31) pegged Churches back to 74-7.

Churches wicketkeeper Martin Garstang (31) joined Hunt and the pair put on a spirited partnership of 60 to get the Sevenhampton-based side up to a semi-respectable 141 all out.

The Nalgo batsmen attacked from the outset, with Rizwan (26) and Rafique (16) off to a brisk start.

Three wickets for Martin (3-55) kept the hosts in the game as Nalgo fell to 57-3.

But an assured unbeaten 34 from Nalgo skipper Raja and 34 from Imran took the game away from Churches.

Two late wickets for Danny Hunt (2-31) were little more than consolation as Nalgo romped home with 18.2 overs to spare.
