SHEFFIELD United boss Nigel Clough is not underestimating Swindon ahead of the play-offs despite Town having not won in five games during their run-in to Thursday night’s crunch match.

The Blades were confirmed as Swindon’s opposition for the play-off semi-finals yesterday as they held fellow play-off contenders Chesterfield to a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane.

Clough believes Swindon have benefitted from having their play-off place confirmed five games ago and will be looking to not be out of the tie when they hear the full-time whistle on Thursday night.

“They certainly won’t be less than match fit after a long hard season,” said Clough.

“I think Mark has been planning that for the last few weeks and his team selections have sort have been, playing one resting one.

“That is the advantage of knowing that they have been in their (the play-offs) a few weeks and he has made sure his players are well rested.

“We were only guaranteed our place last week so I made a few changes today with Thursday in mind, mainly down to injury concerns as much as anything.

“We have seen the examples in the cup games (the impact the fans can have) and we want it as close to that as we can.

“I think it is important to be in the tie, especially at home because you can lose the tie in the first game so we don’t want to do that.

“We have got to have patience there but we have also got to be positive.”

Meanwhile MK Dons will be playing Championship football for the first time in the club’s brief history next season after sealing automatic promotion on a tense final day of the Sky Bet League One campaign.

Their 5-1 win over Yeovil was enough to leapfrog Preston who were beaten 1-0 by Colchester, who survived the drop.
