JACK Stephens is adamant Swindon Town having nothing to fear as the clock ticks down to the League One play-offs.

With Swindon having guaranteed themselves a fourth-placed finish some time ago, and with it a spot in the end-of-season shootout, manager Mark Cooper has opted to chop and change his side in recent games with Thursday’s play-off first leg in mind.

Their opponents will be determined when fifth-placed Sheffield United and Chesterfield, who are sixth, go head-to-head at Bramall Lane in the final round of fixtures on Sunday.

Town face their last tune-up before the final push for promotion when they host relegation-threatened Leyton Orient at the County Ground on Sunday and Stephens is confident they can get the better of whoever they face after that.

“We’re not too focused on who we’re playing, it’s more about us because we know how good we are and if we play to our potential then we can beat anyone,” said the on-loan Southampton defender.

“Obviously we talk about things like that but it looks like we’re going to get Sheffield United. Either way, it doesn’t really matter who you get because you’ve got to beat two out of the three to go up.”

Cooper’s recent selection policy as ensured Town’s players will be at their freshest for the play-offs but it also means they are struggling for momentum.

Town have failed to win any of their last four fixtures, the latest a 1-1 draw at struggling Colchester United on Tuesday night.

Stephens insists a lack of motivation has not been an issue in the Swindon camp but added that it was important to get back on the right back before the post-season.

“We’ve had a few dodgy results but the boys are still working hard and we’re still doing everything we can,” said Stephens.

“I don’t know if it looks like there’s something missing but we’re very happy and confident going into the last few games.

“Naturally, without thinking, you might switch off a little bit, but it’s important for us to prepare for the play-offs, get used to how we play, and try to go into the play-offs with a bit of momentum and in the right way of playing.

“With football, you can’t just turn it on when you want. You have to be at it every single game, whether that’s Colchester away on a Tuesday night or Sheffield United away in the play-offs.

“Every game is important because if we get into a habit of not playing how we can then when we come to the big games we won’t turn up.”
