BOSS Mark Cooper has likened midfielder-of-the-moment Ben Gladwin to Swindon Town great Jan-Aage Fjortoft.

The 22-year-old has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One player of the month award for April following six goals in four matches.

Now the former Marlow man has been compared to the Norwegian striker by the County Ground chief.

"He's come up with another goal the other night (against Colchester) - which is not very Ben Gladwin like - he said to me when he ran back, 'gaffer, you've got to stick me up front.',” Cooper told the local media.

"He's scoring headers like Jan-Aage Fjortoft there, rising and heading it into the far corner - we'll have to stick him in for more set-pieces.

"He can damage the opposition coming in from deep, in my opinion."

The Town boss has been delighted with how Gladwin has come on in recent weeks.

"I think Ben has been a constant shining light over the last couple of months," Cooper said.

"There was always that worry - which I spoke to you guys about (the local press) - about transferring his outstanding training performances out onto the big stage.

"More often than not now he does that.”
