Colchester United v Swindon Town

Colchester must be hoping Swindon will be in a benevolent mood again and field what some may consider a weakened team again that will help their cause for League One survival.

Yet, we are told that football is a squad game and any sensible manager will have several players to cover all the positions on the pitch. When the inevitable happens that players get injured or suspended, there are others that can step up to the plate.

Saturday’s wholesale changes did not go down very well with the travelling support. They paid a lot of money on travel cost and tickets etc just to find out that they would be watching what in effect was the reserve team.

Yet how else are these stars of the future expected to get game time? Yes, we still had a chance of an automatic spot, but it was a very slim chance.

Some were saying at the weekend that Swindon should be banned from the play-offs due to unfair play and not trying. Yet wouldn’t Karl Robinson, Steve Cotterill or Simon Grayson do what they though best for their club if they were in exactly the same situation?
