TYRELL Belford was glad to get some game-time at Preston even if he and his young teammates were beaten 3-0.

Belford has been kept out of the last month or so with a medial ligament injury, with the club signing his brother Cameron to provide cover for number one Wes Foderingham.

Cameron played second string to Tyrell yesterday as the 20-year-old made his first start since the defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy back in October

Having completed 90 minutes for the first time in six months Tyrell revealed he had been after a loan get to more first team experience earlier in the season and was relieved to finally get some game time.

“I've been crying out for a loan,” he said “At the start of the season I wanted to get out on loan, (but) circumstances meant that I had to stay here which I'm totally happy to do.

"I want to do my best for the club and for the team.

"It's vital that I've got a game in - especially just coming back from injury - I'm feeling good now and we'll kick on.”

For the first goal the young stopper was caught in no-man’s land as Joe Garner lifted the ball over him. Tyrell thought the Preston striker was offside, but admitted his rustiness played a part in his decision not to come off his line to collect the ball quicker

"I thought the first goal was offside to be honest,” he added. “We've looked at it back and I think it is offside, but that's here or there and it was difficult because it was the first chance of the game.

"They've stuck it in behind and I'm not too sure if I could have come for it or not - that's from game time and my last game was six-and-a-half months ago, so maybe on another day I would have come for it.

"I'll have to look back on the video and assess that from my point of view.”
