JAZZ Carlin completed a hat-trick of British Championship golds by flying back into contention with a late burst to take the 200m freestyle final.

Her time of 1:56.88 was enough to knock Bath University teammate Siobhan-Marie O’Connor into second, and the 24-year-old admitted she was delighted to succeed in one of her less favoured events.

“The 200m is just a bonus event for me, it’s a fun event and it’s a bit of a sprint for me – so I’m really happy with that,” Swindon swimmer Carlin said.

“It was great getting into the race, I was pretty nervous beforehand because I knew it was going to be tough, but obviously it’s really nice to get onto the podium with Siobhan because we train together day in, day out.

“It’s been a great few days overall, I’ve been happy with some things and I know there are things to improve on, but it was about getting that qualification time for Russia.

“To do that on day two in my first event was great, and it took the pressure off for the last few days.”
