CLARRIE Dunbar are still on course to win the overall Wessex League title for a third time.

They booked their place in this year’s final of the play-offs that will be held at their own green at Standerwick with a 21-shot victory over wild card entrant Carterton.

Wessex League champions in 2009 and 2013 Clarrie Dunbar gained ample revenge over Carterton for defeating them in the 2007 final with a 97-76 victory in the semi-final played on the neutral green in the midlands at Bromsgrove IBC on Saturday morning.

The game against Carterton was evenly balanced after five ends across the board with Clarrie just leading 24-23 after five ends but had increased the advantage to ten shots moving 52-42 ahead after ten.

Dunbar continued to dominate and had forged 18 shots clear at 18 ends leading 71-53 and finally won by an impressive 21 shots running out as the 97-76 victors and taking the honours on three of the four rinks.

Andy Colebrooke’s rink produced the biggest winning margin of 15 shots, while Russell Francis’ quartet won by 11 and Terry Perkins’ foursome by nine shots.

This 35-shot advantage easily covered the 14-shot loss suffered by Graham Shadwell’s rink.

Clarrie will have home advantage for the final at Standerwick on Sunday, April 26 (11am) when they face 2011 and reigning Wessex League champions Exonia (Exeter) who beat Bristol in their semi-final at MidGlos 84-76.

The 2015 Wessex final was pre-arranged last year to be held at Clarrie Dunbar as the club had requested the opportunity to stage it as part of their 30th anniversary celebrations.
