SWINDON Town chairman Lee Power stated that Mark Cooper has 'the best job in football' after turning down a second approach from Barnsley for his manager.

At one stage Cooper had been made the bookies favourite to get the Oakwell role, but now the chances of the Town boss making the move north seem to have dissipated entirely.

After last night's 2-1 win over Bradford, Cooper re-affirmed his commitment to the Swindon cause and it now looks likely Oldham boss Lee Johnson will take the Tykes top job. Johnson's odds were cut last night to 8/1 on, and a move for the 33-year-old manager could be wrapped up as soon as today.

“Barnsley come, they made an approach, obviously I told Coops (Mark Cooper) about it and like we always laugh and joke he has got the best job in football. I think he has,” said Power to BBC Wiltshire before yesterday’s game.

“He has come in here, we are easy going, me and Mark get on great, he is doing a great job and in some ways I am pleased for him because it is recognition for the job he is doing. I am surprised I haven’t had Coventry on the phone.

“That’s football and that is the business we are in. He hasn’t been up to speak to them. He sat there and straight away he didn’t want to go which obviously suited everyone and we just continue.

“It’s going to be the same with the players but we just have to get on with it.”

Cooper maintained that he wasn’t on his way out of the County Ground and still had a job to complete with Swindon as they got their promotion push back on track last night.

“They made an approach, or a couple of approaches to the chairman and he turned it down and that is that,” said Cooper.

“I am enjoying my time at Swindon and I can’t preach to the boys about loyalty and staying to try and see the season through and get off myself.

“It’s important I try to stay, try to look after them and see the season though.”
