NEWPORT County were set to announce that Miles Storey will be heading to Rodney Parade on a month’s loan on Friday morning – as Swindon Town reportedly fended off increased interest in star midfielder Massimo Luongo.

The Storey deal, expected to be formally announced at 10am, will have an option for an extension beyond that first month, with the focus on the young striker getting game time after a season-long deal with Portsmouth was cut short.

Meanwhile, Town have reportedly rejected a bid of just under £2 million from an unnamed Turkish club for Luongo, who is playing a starring role for Australia in the Asian Cup, with the Socceroos facing South Korea in tomorrow’s final.

Interest in Luongo has grown as transfer deadline day looms on Monday with the Turkish bid the first to formally test the resolve of the County Ground hierarchy.

La Liga giants Sevilla have also been tracking the Town playmaker, 22, although Town remain determined to hang on to their man past the closure of the window.

Storey has been training back with Swindon after returning to the club in December.

However, the 21-year-old did not head to Tenerife with the first team as he looked to secure a move to St Mirren with a trial last weekend. That did not work out, neither did a proposed move to Northampton.

However, now it appears Storey has found a new home, albeit temporarily, in south Wales, though his future with Town is less certain.

Meanwhile, former Town striker Billy Bodin has joined League Two Northampton Town until the end of the season.
