SEASON ticket sales for the Swindon Robins final campaign at the Abbey Stadium are up on this time last year.

Supporters snapped up the early bird specials after being released at the beginning of December and owner Terry Russell is hoping to make it a year to remember with the Abbey as it is being transformed at the end of the season.

The Robins are still yet to find a number one rider for the new season but Russell does not expect a deal to be done while team manager Alun Rossiter is on holiday, but is confident the team will be able to push for the play-offs again.

“Ticket sales have gone well, they have slowed up a bit now, but that is to be expected,” said Russell.

“They went very well up until pre-Christmas and then it kicks in again around March.

“If you take it based on where season tickets were last year then we are very much up.”

One highlights of the season that Russell is hoping to sign up for is the double header with Poole Pirates on Good Friday, April 3.

This year the club are hoping to have the return leg at an earlier time to attract more fans to the Abbey.

“The fans seem to enjoy that bank holiday double header,” added Russell.

“It is nice and early in the season and if the weather is kind on a Good Friday it is something people sign up for.

“They go down to Poole in the morning and then come home and see the return of it in the evening and I think it is great.

“All we have got to do is we are now looking seriously at the start time because we didn’t start until 8pm last year at home due to the fact there was a dog meeting on until 6.20pm I think.

“The dog meeting now on that Friday is going to finish much earlier, so we may look at starting the meeting a tad earlier.”

Supporters can still purchase tickets with prices of £235 for adults, £180 for senior citizens and students and £30 for children.
