IN spite of Swindon Town ending their near 10-year wait for a win at Peterborough’s London Road boss Mark Cooper was not a happy man.

Town went 2-0 up early in the second half as Jonathan Obika nodded in Ben Gladwin’s free-kick, adding to Andy Williams’ first half goal. Having got the second the Robins did take their foot off the throat of their hosts, with Joe Newell’s late strike making the scoreline look closer the play reflected.

Peterborough, despite largely being second best throughout, had enough chances to count themselves unlucky not to get a point. Conor Washington, who hit the bar from about six yards, and Jermaine Anderson, will both be disappointed not to have done more with their opportunities to get a result for their side.

For Swindon it was the lack of desire shown by the players to kill off their opponents that angered Cooper, who clearly felt his side had more to give than they showed in the second 45.

Asked how he rated his side’s performance the Town boss said: “The first half was very good, they second half very poor.

“Once we got the second goal we tried to see the game out again instead of playing properly. Very similarly to Leyton Orient we are hanging on at the end when the game should be well and truly be over.

“I’m very disappointed. I’ve let the players know I’m not happy with the performance because we have to strive to be better than that in the second half.

“It’s a difficult score 2-0 because one goal for us and it is game over and one goal for them and it is game on. I was just disappointed that we didn’t play as much, we resorted to a few long balls when it was on to play and the game was stretched.

“We gave the initiative to Peterborough late on in the second half when we should have been really comfortable.”
