SWINDON Town defender Raphael Branco is confident of his own ability as he heads to London Road today, despite putting the ball in his own net during his last visit.

The 26-year-old Brazilian who is expected to sign a new contract shortly has put that Johnstone Pait Trophy area final incident in February to the back of his mind.

Instead he will be pushing Mark Cooper for a place in the starting line-up after an impressive return to action in his first start, since suffering a groin injury, at Bristol City last weekend.

After marshalling Aaron Wilbraham so effectively in the derby clash, it will be another Aaron that could be a thorn in his side this weekend as McLean returns to the Cambridgeshire side.

“I played against Peterborough (in the league) and got man of the match in January so this happens when you score an own goal (in February) it is part of the football players life so I don’t remember them anymore,” said Branco.

“Every week when we go and play against a team we watch some clips to see what they have the best and their mistakes as well and we try and see them and when we go and play against them we go and do this.

“I don’t know about him (Aaron McLean), we just watch clips about them, but I am not really worried about this, I am just worried about what we need to do and our performance next Saturday.

“You have to look after the player, but we know they have 11 players so if we just see him then the other ones are going to score and we will lose so obviously we have to be careful of the other players but especially against him.”

“Now we have a full week of training which is helping us a lot.”
