CHIPPENHAM’S Emeralds Boxing club hosted its first show of the new season featuring ten of their own fighters and former WBC super middleweight champion Glenn Catley making a guest speaker appearance.

Leon Frampton (Emeralds) opened the card with an entertaining skills bout with Jack Holmes(Wessex ABC) before 12-year-old Tommy Cawley claimed a unanimous points verdict over Frankie Royals (Baker Street).

Emeralds’ Johnny (Be Good) Ward, 14, was another unanimous winner over Brian Johns (City of Glos' ABC).

Fifteen-year-old Jim Cawley had one of the toughest fights of his career facing the vastly more experienced Anton Esson (Baker Street ABC) but also delivered a unanimous points verdict.

Emeralds’ only female boxer Emma Hansleman took on Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, from Torrington Police ABC, who emerged the points winner in a tight battle.

The host club’s Michael Locke – in his first ever fight – was stopped in the third round by Joe Bevan (Sydenham ABC) with a badly bleeding nose.

Cameron Agnew used his height and strength advantage to the full in convincingly outpointing the tough Harry Hitchcock (Frome ABC), while southpaw Connor Gray (Emeralds) beat Owen Sutton (Swindon ABC unanimously on points.

Alex Davies (Emeralds) was very unlucky to miss out against Alex Wride (Malmesbury ABC) losing a split points decision, while Leo Swinfen halted Dan McClure (Wessex ABC) in the second round by TKO.

The final bout of the evening saw Emeralds Aaron Chivers edge out Elliot Morrison (City of Glos ABC) by split decision.

Guest Catley chose Ward as top home boxer and Cottle-Hunkin as the best away fighter.
