ANDY Williams has been making the point to his manager Mark Cooper that he is deserving of a spot in his starting XI.

In his post-match press duties at Yeovil Cooper described Williams as a “great professional” after the player reminded him that, before his fourth goal from the bench in the draw at Yeovil on Saturday, he had just as many from the start.

The 28-year-old made it abundantly clear when talking to the media that he thinks his form is deserving place in the first XI.

Asked if he was disappointed to lose his starting spot Williams said: “Yeah massively, it’s not the first time this season I’ve said that. I can’t do anything more than what I do coming off the bench.

“It’s not something I’m just doing from the bench, I’m playing quite well at the moment.”

“The gaffer’s been playing with some statistics which say I’m good off the bench. Ahead of today I was three from starts and three off the bench, so it was about evens. I’d like to think the more time I’m on the pitch the more chances I get to score goals.

“Hopefully when I start, like I did against Gillingham, Newport and Crewe, I score goals as well.

“I’ve had it throughout my career where I have to fight to get back in the team and that’s the way I know how to do it. If I’m not starting there’s no point in me coming on moping.”
