LOUIS Thompson has enjoyed his break but would have prefered to get the defeat at Plymouth Argyle out of his system sooner.

It was a disappointing evening in Devon. Town were caught out by their lower-league opponents three times before half-time and despite a late rally couldn’t quite get the goals to force penalties.

That was 10 days ago, now in full comprehension that the break will benefit Town with regards the immediate fixture list, in both the short and long-term, the young midfielder says it has left him ‘stewing’ on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy loss.

“It took a couple of days (to get over the Plymouth defeat),” said Thompson.

“I think the best thing for us would have been to play the next day and get that out of our system.

“We’ve had time to reflect on it, we understand why that’s happened and hopefully we can put that right come Saturday.

“In football, you like to get over problems that arise quite quickly.

“So to have all that time to stew on it is not great but we’re not screwing our nose up at not having games and having opportunities to rest.”

“It’s been nice (to have to get more training in). It’s been a welcome change to the majority of the seasons that I’ve been here.”

“We’ve had plenty of time to prepare, we’ve still got more time today and tomorrow as well so hopefully we can go and produce a performance that replicates that time that we’ve had.”
