MELKSHAM Town manager Darren Perrin reckons that his team go into Saturday’s FA Vase second qualifying round tie full of confidence following their recent good form.

Perrin’s men, who breezed past county rivals Pewsey Vale in the previous round go looking to add another £800 of prize money to the coffers at the Conigre when they host Sydenhams League Bournemouth Poppies this weekend.

Melksham go into this Saturday’s Vase showdown off the back of a three-match unbeaten run in the Toolstation League Premier Division, with Perrin’s side winning 2-0 at Sherborne Town last weekend, and the Conigre chief thinks that avoiding a replay will be crucial to his team’s chances of progressing.

“Everybody knows how important getting that prize money is to clubs of our size but it’s going to be a very difficult tie,” said Perrin.

“Bournemouth beat Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the last round so we know that they’re going to be a good side and we don’t want to be travelling down to Bournemouth on a Tuesday night – winning on Saturday is our best opportunity to progress.

“Confidence is high. The players have been magnificent to be fair and the fact that we’ve had such a good start to the season, despite so many problems, speaks volumes about what they’ve done.”

Mike Perrott’s header and a Dan King strike saw off Sherborne last weekend.

Goalscorer King is cup-tied for tomorrow’s Vase tie whilst Dan Kovacs in unavailable but Gary Higdon returns to the Melksham squad.
