JAKE Reeves believes that he should have been allowed to celebrate his first Swindon Town goal with the supporters who had made the journey to Barnsley.

The 21-year-old opened his account in Town colours on Saturday in the 3-0 success at Oakwell.

But as the midfielder celebrated his strike with the near 500 travelling fans, referee Chris Kavanagh took the gloss off his goal with a yellow card.

When asked what he was booked for, Reeves said: “Going into the crowd – which apparently you are not allowed to do anymore.”

“I think takes a bit out of the game to be honest, the supporters have travelled all the way from Swindon to Barnsley to support us and I think that you should be able to celebrate with the crowd.”While that caution may have slightly put a dampener on things for the former Brentford man, he was delighted to have been able to get off the mark for his new club and help push them into third place in the League One table.

“(It is) very pleasing (to score),” he said. “I nearly scored the other day in the JPT and I was devastated that didn’t go in.

“I was happy that I was able to come on and contribute something to the game.

“I think 1-0 is always dodgy going into the last 15, you get the second goal and you kind of kill the other team.

“We did that (against Barnsley) and we kicked on and got the third as well.”

Reeves also paid tribute to man-of-the-match Byrne for supplying the killer ball for his goal and his performance at Oakwell.

“You enjoy watching him, he is good player, especially when you get to play in a team where you have got players who can produce stuff like.

“He was brilliant all game, he gave their left back a torrid time which he does normally every week anyway,” the midfielder said.

“I knew that if I could get into the box then Byrney would pick me out.”
