SIMON Gardner conceded that his Calne Town side pulled a fast one as they got their hands on all three points against struggling Wellington last weekend.

The Lilywhites notched up their second successive victory in the Toolstation League First Division as they beat winless Wellington 2-1 at Bremhill View but Gardner had no problems admitting that his team didn’t deserve to get their hands on a victory.

After trailing 1-0 at half-time, Calne got back on level terms midway through the second period as substitute Graham Dean forced the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.

Gardner’s men then went ahead through Aaron Hopkins’ strike, with Dean also striking the post.

“I felt very sorry for the Wellington manager because we didn’t deserve to win the game,” said the Calne chief.

“We were terrible and if I could put my finger on exactly why that was, I’d be a better manager than I am now.

“We were missing Neurin Jones and Mark Dolman, as well as Tom Slater and Tom Boakes, so we were without quite a few players that would probably have played a part in the game.

“But winning when we’ve been really poor is a big bonus for us. Hopefully we can take that result forward.”

The Lilywhitesakeon county rivals Westbury United on Wednesday night.
