THE Manor House Hotel and Golf Club in Castle Combe has a new course record for the first time in 13 years – after local amateur Jamie Jobbins shot a stunning round of 67.

Until Jobbins’ record-breaking round, the record had been held by current head professional Andrew Ryan since 2001.

Since then, the course has been redesigned and lengthened by 300 yards to its current length of 6,500 yards from the back markers.

Jobbins, from Alderton, has seen his single-digit handicap cut to scratch since his low round.

The 20-year-old said: “My putter was really firing on the day – I think the speed and the quality of the greens really helped me.

“I started to think I had a chance of setting the record on the 13th hole. It is a par four, 289 yards uphill, and I hit a great tee shot that left me with a tap-in for an eagle.

“On the closing few holes I really tried to stay grounded. I took each hole as it came and really tried to stay in the present. I’m delighted to have set the new record and I’ll be trying to better it soon.”

Head pro Ryan added: “Jamie is a terrific golfer and I’m delighted for him that he’s set this new course record.

“It was a thrill to be able to shake his hand and congratulate him on such fine playing. I’ve warned him that I’ll be trying to get my record back soon though!”
